Net sales in 1946 were about $34 million.
It opened in 1771 and flour became one of the key revenue streams for Mount Vernon. Washington was always looking for innovations, in his studies of various agricultural endeavors. In 1790, the patent office formed and Oliver Evans patented the automated milling system. Washington as president had to sign approved patents.

Jan 10, 2020 The news of the northeast Georgia plant closing has trickled across the state to Chattooga County where Mount Vernon Mills also operates a plant in Trion. The News tried contacting the company to see how the Alto plant closure will affect the Trion mill. The Northeast Georgian newspaper reports that Alto will close in 60 days.
Oct 30, 2021 A fire at Mount Vernon Mills in Trion was reported shortly after 7 AM on Saturday morning. The Trion Fire Department responded to the scene. Trion Fire Officials then called for mutual aid. Fire fighters from all over Chattooga County responded, along with firefighters from surrounding counties.
